Chomp Carl Hiaasen review by Matthew H-M

Chomp Review

Chomp by Carl Hiaasen is a great book and like most all of his books takes place in Florida. It is about a boy named Wahoo and his dad, Mickey Cray. Mickey is an animal wrangler who works for wilderness tv shows and recently was hit in the head with an iguana. I know this seems silly, but it’s not. Iguanas are not native to Florida but a lot of people buy them as pets. When they buy them they don’t realize they would grow to be so huge. So, when they grow huge, people let them out into the wilderness. The same thing happens with pythons. Well, I know you think Florida is warm but iguanas are used to much warmer places. So, when they are in the trees in the winter sometimes they freeze and fall. That is how Mickey was hit. In this book, the Crays are not working because Mickey is seeing double and having splitting headaches. But, the bills and the mortgage need to be paid so Wahoo and Mickey accept a job wrangling for Expedition Survival with their star, Derek Badger. Quickly, Mickey and Wahoo realize that Derek’s a wimp, a jerk, a little in over his head, and very very stupid. Drek decides that he doesn’t want to use the tame tv animals and the fake sets anymore, but that he wants to do the real deal. Mickey can’t stand this idiot, but he has to in order to get the money. Soon enough, Derek gets them all in a tiny bit of trouble that might involve a vampire, a murderer, a lost airboat, and a lot of alligators. Read Chomp to figure out what happens in this terrific book.
