On Tuesday December 4, the Durham Academy 6th grade went to the Nasher Museum at Duke University. Today I will talk about the artist Henri Mattisse. Henri Mattisse’s real name was Henri-Émile-Benoît Matisse. He started to paint in 1889, when his mother bought art supplies during the period of convalescence. After that, in 1897, Mattisse’s first masterpiece, The Dinner Table, was finished. Then His controversial 1907 painting Blue Nude was burned in effigy at the Armory Show in Chicago in 1913. Henri Mattisse also drew Woman with a Hat and Leo Stein. Somebody who really loved Mattisse’s paintings and collected them were the Cone sisters. The Cone Sisters first bought Mattisse’s painting in 1906, after that, the Cone sisters spent the next 4 decades collecting Mattisse’s paintings. Mattisse spent his life creating wonderful paintings. Matisse died of a heart attack at the age of eighty-four, on November 3, 1954,
