The Pear Tree By Madison K.

This is a folktale that I made up:

Once there were two farmers named Max and Tom. They both grew corn on their farms which were side by side. There was one pear tree right on the border of their two farms. This pear tree was just there and never caused many problems throughout their lives. The tree was the last of the pear trees.

One windy day, a pear fell from the tree on to Max’s property. Max ate the pear and said, “This is the best pear I ever had.” The next day was sunny and bright. Then Max claimed the tree to be his and he took great care of it. Then Tom, the other farmer, got mad. One day, a pear fell from the tree onto his property. Tom ate the pear and said, “This is the best pear I ever had.” Later that week, one of the pears fell on the property line between the two farms. The men started fighting about who the pear belonged to. So when winter came they still were fighting. The tree started to wither and die.

That was the last pear tree ever and they let it die. Without their care it died and it was all there fault. They were now fighting about a rotten pear tree. They stopped the day they realized the tree was dead. They now knew that life has both sweet and sour. The tree gave them sweet pears until they argued, and soured their relationship.  From that day on they knew nothing could come between them because no more does the pear fall from the tree.
