A Day as a Grown-Up

If I was an adult for a day, I probably wouldn’t act like my mom. Grown-ups have the power to do so much cool stuff but they don’t. I guess they have so many responsibilities like paying the bills, taking care of kids, doing the housework, etc. If I was a grown-up just for a day I’ve already got my parents to get all that done so I could do things I’ve always wanted to do without worrying about consequences.

I wake up and I’m 5′ 8″ and twenty-five year old. First, I grabbed some money and go outside. I went to the nearest car dealership and took it out for a “test drive”. I managed to get to Starbucks without totally destroying the car. I got a warm latté and a muffin, took a seat, and wondered what the heck happened to me.

I thought, “There’s no way to change this so I might as well enjoy this.” I pondered if I would ever be a twelve year old again then decided this day might not happen again for about ten years so I left to live my day to the fullest. I practiced my driving so I wouldn’t be so conspicuous and drove and drove until I was about to crash

I was at some beach, I didn’t really know where I was but I got out and walked in the water until it came to my knees. It was a Friday in July so there were many people at the beach and I blended in. I spotted an abandoned beach chair and got out of the water to get dry. I check my watch and it’s 12pm. I walked to a nearby fast-food and got a burger.

I made my way back to my car and found it unlocked. Some idiot broke into it but there was nothing to steal. I see a guy running with a lockpick a few yards away. I chase after him and I thought to myself, “If you’re gonna be a burglar, you should be able to run faster.” I caught him and asked him if he broke into my car.

He stuttered, “I… I didn’t try to steal anything! I swear!”

“Oh really?” I asked.

“Well, I did but there was nothing in there so I didn’t take anything!” He declared.

“I could call the police right now and you’d be in jail. But if you hand over the lockpick and promise not to steal anything from now on, I’ll let you go.”

So he walked away with a better heart. I played at the beach for a while then got into my car. I enjoyed the view of the waves from inside the car then drove away as the sun was about to set. I drove the car back to the dealership and walked home in the warm summer air with a cool breeze now and then.

If I was somehow magically transformed into an adult overnight I probably would freak out and go see a doctor. But the story is more fun if you think I would actually do these things. I would crash the car in five seconds so I wouldn’t get a car. But just for the sake of the story, you can pretend these are the things I would do.
