Internet Goes black to Protest SOPA And PIPA

Wikipedia was one of several websites that shut down at midnight on Wednesday in protest of anti-piracy bills that could amount to censorship.  Today instead of reading articles, visitors would see a greeting saying “imagine a world without free knowledge”.   In a statement, the White House this week said it would not support any bill that would “inhibit innovation,” for American business and promised to protect “the openness of the Internet.”  Meaning that President Obama would most likely veto the bill were it to pass through Congress.  According to articles Rupert Murdoch, the head of News Corporation has been slamming Google, who he calls a piracy leader.  Congress is split on the bill, however they have postponed talks because of the online protests.  Some people and websites are saying that the government is taking away the free speech rights.
