Book Review on Inkheart By Ellen C.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funk

It was a cold, rainy night and Meggie couldn’t sleep. If she had known what was going to happen next, she probably would have stayed in bed, pulled the blanket up to her chin, and shut her eyes tightly. But she didn’t. She got out of bed and walked to the window where she spotted a man standing silently in the rain. She rushed to tell her father Mo (she had never called him anything else) and found him still awake, reading to himself. Mo was a bookbinder so naturally, Meggie’s family loved books. Even her mother who had been missing since Meggie was three loved them. She told Mo about the man and Mo reluctantly let him inside. He seemed to know something that he was not telling her. By this time, Meggie was quite confused and all Mo had told her was that the man’s name was Dustfinger. He told her to go back to bed and he let the man into his workroom. There, Meggie heard them talking about a book. Meggie would not know what the book meant until much later, but she could tell that this was not normal. Later, Meggie comes to learn that Mo has an amazing voice that can bring things in stories out of their world and into her own. This leads to the even more shocking discovery that many years ago, Mo made a mistake that took Meggie’s mother and in return, brought a terrible man named Capricorn and his most loyal servant and killer, Basta. Now, Meggie’s must overcome all of her fears and protect, not only her’s, but her father’s life as well. And nothing will ever be the same. I recommend that you read this book!

  1. Sounds like an interesting book, Ellen! I like Dan’s post about his new puppy. Great Swiss Mountain dogs get big and are SO cute! You’ll have to ask him to bring it in and maybe you could write something about Iz Biz and Mia Mia!! 🙂 XO Mom
