Our school went on a field trip to the Nasher Museum of Art to see part of the Cone Sister’s collection. At the museum, there was one painting by an artist that especially stood out to me. The artist was Vincent Van Gogh. Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch impressionist artist born in the early 1850 and died in 1890. He probably one of the most famous artist in the world. He painted “Starry Night”, “Bedroom in Arles”, “12 Sunflowers”, and many more. He drew many portraits of himself and others. He also drew a lot the outside world, he loved drawing irises. Vincent Van Gogh was a strange man. The reason in almost all of his self portraits you only see his right ear is because he cut off part of his left. There are two stories. One was that he cut it off himself but other people claim his friend cut it off and Van Gogh lied to protect his friend. When Van Gogh was 37 he shot himself in the chest. No one really knows why he committed suicide. Van Gogh accomplished a lot during his life time. He painted over 900 paintings it just ten years!!!! Vam Gogh never married, and in my opinion when they heard he was crazy enough to cut of his ear they probably thought he was a nut. Even though he is so famous today in his lifetime he sold only one painting. Van Gogh had several siblings but he was the closest to Theo. When Van Gogh died Theo said the sadness will last forever. I truly enjoy Van Gogh’s work and I wish he could have lived to see himself become famous.
